# Vocational Driving License (GDL/PSV) Application

What Is It

A Vocational Driving License is an additional driver authorization issued by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for commercial drivers. It is divided into:
  • Goods Driving License (GDL): To drive commercial trucks and goods transport vehicles.
  • Public Service Vehicle (PSV): To drive passenger public transport vehicles (e-hailing, taxis, buses).
  • Who Is Eligible

  • Malaysian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Aged 21 and above.
  • Holds a valid competent private driving license (CDL) for Class D (for cars) or Class E (for heavy vehicles).
  • Passed the vocational medical checkup (Form JPJ L8).
  • Required Documents

  • Original MyKad.
  • Original CDL private driving license.
  • Medical checkup report (Form JPJ L8) signed by a registered medical doctor.
  • 1 passport-sized photo (white background).
  • Step-by-Step Procedure

    1. Medical Checkup: Visit a registered clinic and undergo a physical medical checkup using form JPJ L8. 2. Enrol at Driving Institute: Register at a JPJ-accredited driving school for the GDL/PSV course. 3. Attend Lectures: Attend the mandatory 6-hour theory course. 4. Pass Exam: Sit for and pass the theory test. 5. Submit to JPJ: Bring your course certificate, JPJ L8 form, MyKad, and photo to a JPJ office to print the vocational license.

  • - Theory Course & Exam: RM150 to RM250 (depending on driving institute). - JPJ License Fee: RM20 per year.
  • Processing Time: 1 working day at the JPJ counter once course certificates are presented.
  • Where to Apply

  • Theory courses: Accredited Driving Institutes (Institut Memandu).
  • Card printing: Any JPJ Branch Office or UTC JPJ counter.
  • Important Notes

  • Vocational licenses must be renewed annually. A medical checkup (Form JPJ L8) is required for every renewal.
