What Is It

The Employment Insurance System (EIS) or Sistem Insurans Pekerjaan (SIP) is a social security safety net managed by SOCSO. It provides financial help and job search assistance to employees who have lost their jobs (due to retrenchment, company closures, or voluntary separation schemes).

Who Is Eligible

  • Malaysian citizens or permanent residents.
  • Aged between 18 and 60.
  • Has made the required minimum monthly EIS contributions (at least 11 contributions prior to retrenchment).
  • Exclusions: Voluntary resignation, retirement, expiry of fixed-term contracts, or termination due to misconduct.
  • Required Documents

  • Copy of MyKad.
  • Letter of Termination / Retrenchment from the employer.
  • Copy of salary slips for the latest 6 months.
  • Copy of active bank account statement.
  • Step-by-Step Procedure

    1. File Claim: Submit the EIS claim online via the MySynergy portal or physical SOCSO branch within 60 days of your termination date. 2. Submit Documents: Upload your termination letter, MyKad, bank statement, and salary slips. 3. Register on MYFutureJobs: Register your job seeker profile on the official MYFutureJobs employment portal. 4. Job Search Log: Submit monthly job application logs to show active job search efforts. 5. Allowance Credit: Receive the tiered Job Search Allowance (EMP) monthly (ranging from 80% of average salary down to 30% for up to 6 months).
