# Road Accident Emergency Reporting (PDRM)

What Is It

Under the Road Transport Act 1987, it is a legal requirement to report any road traffic accident involving vehicles in Malaysia to the police within 24 hours. The certified police report (Laporan Polis) is a mandatory document required to file vehicle insurance damage claims or injury claims.

Who Is Eligible

  • Any driver or rider involved in a road traffic collision in Malaysia.
  • Required Documents

  • Original MyKad or Passport.
  • Valid Driving License.
  • Vehicle Registration Card details (or Grant).
  • Insurance Policy/Cover Note details.
  • Photos of the accident scene and damage on both vehicles.
  • Step-by-Step Procedure

    1. Ensure Safety: Move vehicles to the emergency lane if safe to do so. Capture photos of the damage and registration plates of all involved vehicles. 2. Exchange Details: Exchange phone numbers, name, MyKad, and insurance company details with the other party. 3. Visit Police Station: Drive or go to the nearest District Police Headquarters (Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah - IPD) or traffic police station (Balai Polis Trafik) of the district where the accident occurred. 4. Lodge Report: Complete the accident declaration statement (Borang Repot Kemalangan) explaining the chronology of events. 5. Statement & Interview: The Investigating Officer (Pegawai Penyiasat Trafik) interviews you and takes photos of your vehicle's damage. 6. Collect Official Copy: Pay the document fee at the station's counter to print the certified copy of your Police Report (Repot Polis) and the official sketch diagram (Rajah Kasar). Use these files to submit claims to your insurance provider.

  • Cost: Filing the report is free. Printing a certified copy for insurance claims costs a flat fee of RM4.00.
  • Processing Time: The police report is printed and ready within 1 to 2 hours of lodging.

  • In-person: Respective district Traffic Police Stations (Balai Polis Trafik) or District Police Headquarters (IPD).
  • Important Notes

  • You must report the accident within 24 hours of the incident. Delaying without reasonable medical excuse is an offense and can lead to compound fines.
