# Official Document Translation & Certification (ITBM)
What Is It
The Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books (Institut Terjemahan & Buku Malaysia - ITBM) is the official government-owned body providing certified translation services in Malaysia. Document translations certified by ITBM are legally recognized by Malaysian ministries, courts, foreign embassies, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) for official applications.
Who Is Eligible
Anyone (citizens and foreigners) requiring official translation of legal documents (e.g. birth certificates, marriage certificates, academic transcripts, or corporate contracts) into Malay, English, or foreign languages.
Required Documents
Original documents to be translated (or clear high-resolution scanned copies).
Passport/MyKad of the document owner.
Step-by-Step Procedure
1. Submit Request: Visit the ITBM headquarters or upload documents online via the ITBM e-translation system.
2. Quote Generation: ITBM sends a quotation based on word count, language complexity, and urgency.
3. Pay Translation Fee: Settle the payment online via bank transfer or credit card to commence work.
4. Translation Process: ITBM's certified translators translate the document and attach the official ITBM Certification Seal and stamp.
5. Collection / Delivery: Collect the physical certified translation at the ITBM office or request courier delivery.
6. Wisma Putra Attestation (If required): Bring the certified ITBM translation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (KLN) in Putrajaya for final consular legalization.
Cost & Processing Time
Cost: Rates depend on languages. Standard Malay-English translation starts from RM80.00 to RM120.00 per page. Consular stamp duty at Wisma Putra is RM10.00 to RM20.00 per stamp.
Processing Time: Standard turnaround is 3 to 5 working days. Express services (24-48 hours) are available for surcharge fees.

Important Notes
Government ministries and foreign embassies generally reject translation documents done by private non-certified translators. Ensure your translator is registered under ITBM or the Malaysian Translators Association (PPM).
