# National Blood Donation Registration & Donor Benefits
What Is It
The National Blood Centre (Pusat Darah Negara - PDN) under the Ministry of Health coordinates blood donations in Malaysia. To appreciate donors, the government provides free healthcare benefits (free outpatient treatments and ward upgrades) at government hospitals, scale-tiered based on the frequency of donations.
Who Is Eligible
Donor Criteria: Aged between 18 and 60 (up to 65 for regular donors). Weight must be at least 45kg. In good health and slept at least 5 hours prior.
Must not belong to any high-risk groups (under sexual history or travel criteria).
Required Documents
Original MyKad or Passport.
Red Blood Donation Book (Buku Derma Darah) showing recorded donation history.
Step-by-Step Procedure
1. Find Campaign: Locate active mobile blood drive campaigns or visit a permanent blood bank (e.g. PDN, major hospital blood banks).
2. Fill Form: Complete the declaration health form (Borang PDN 202).
3. Register: Present your MyKad and register your donation profile.
4. Blood Test: Undergo blood type and hemoglobin checks.
5. Medical Doctor Interview: Brief consultation to verify blood pressure and health status.
6. Donation Process: Sit back for the blood collection (takes 10 to 15 minutes).
7. Post-Donation Care: Rest, take snacks, and receive your donation book record.
Cost & Processing Time
Cost: Free.
Donation Time: Around 45 minutes for the entire cycle.
Donor Benefits Tiers:
- 1 donation: Free outpatient treatment for 4 months.
- 5-10 donations: Free outpatient treatment for 1 year + Free Class 2 ward for 1 year.
- 50+ donations: Free outpatient treatment for life + Free Class 1 ward for 10 years (subsequently Class 2 for life).
