What Is It

The MyKad contains an embedded contact microchip holding the owner's biometric fingerprint templates, photo, and address details. If government portals or bank card readers fail to read the chip, the cardholder must apply for a card replacement at the National Registration Department (JPN).

  • Step-by-Step Procedure

    1. Diagnose Issue: Visit a government agency or bank. If their card reader outputs 'Chip Read Error' repeatedly, the chip is physically damaged. 2. Visit JPN Office: Visit the nearest National Registration Department (JPN) branch office or UTC counter. 3. Queue & Verify: Collect a queue ticket for 'Gantian MyKad'. Present your damaged card to the counter officer. 4. Biometric Validation: Place your thumbs on the JPN biometric scanner to verify your identity against the national database. 5. Pay Replacement Fee: Settle the card replacement fee at the payment counter. 6. Card Collection: Collect your new MyKad (can be printed within 45 minutes at major JPN state headquarters, or collected within 10 working days at sub-branches).
