What Is It

The MyKad is Malaysia's compulsory national identity card (Kad Pengenalan) for all citizens aged 12 and above. It serves as proof of citizenship, identity, and contains a microchip for multiple government services.

Who Is Eligible

  • Citizens aged 12 and above
  • Permanent residents (PR) aged 12 and above
  • Required Documents

  • Original birth certificate (Sijil Kelahiran): Required for all applications
  • Both parents' MyKads: Original and copy required
  • One recent passport-sized photo (blue background): Standard photo requirements
  • School letter: For school batch processing (if applicable)
  • Police report: Required if MyKad is lost (obtain from any Balai Polis)
  • Proof of address: Required for address updates (utility bill, tenancy agreement, etc.)
  • Step-by-Step Procedure

    1. Make an appointment: Via the JPN online system (https://www.jpn.gov.my) or walk in early 2. Bring original documents: To JPN counter (parent/guardian must accompany minors) 3. Biometric capture: Fingerprints (all 10 fingers) and photograph taken on-site 4. Verify details: Check name, IC number, address, religion, and race 5. Collect MyKad: Same day at most counters, or delivered within 5 working days

  • First-time application: RM10 (first issue is free for most cases)

  • MyKad must be carried at all times — failure to produce may result in a compound
