# International Driving Permit (IDP) Application

What Is It

An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a document that allows Malaysian driving license holders to drive private vehicles legally in countries that recognize the United Nations 1949 Convention on Road Traffic. It is issued by JPJ and the Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM).

Who Is Eligible

  • Holders of a valid Competent Driving License (CDL) issued by JPJ.
  • Note: Holders of a Probationary Driving License (P-plate) are not eligible to apply.
  • Required Documents

  • Original MyKad and copy.
  • Original Competent Driving License (CDL) and copy (must be valid for at least 1 year).
  • 2 passport-sized photos (white background).
  • Form JPJ L1 (available at counter).
  • Step-by-Step Procedure

    1. Visit Branch: Go to any state JPJ office or UTC counter. 2. Collect Form: Fill out the JPJ L1 application form. 3. Submit Documents: Present your CDL, MyKad, photos, and form at the counter. 4. Make Payment: Pay the annual fee of RM150. 5. Card Collection: The IDP book is printed and handed to you on the spot.

  • Cost: RM150 per year.
  • Processing Time: Within 15 to 30 minutes at JPJ/UTC counters.

  • Any state JPJ Head Office or UTC JPJ counters.
  • Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) offices.
  • Important Notes

  • An IDP is valid for 1 year from the date of issue.
  • While driving abroad, you must carry both your IDP and your original Malaysian CDL driving license.
