What Is It

Malaysian government hospitals offer subsidized inpatient medical care. Wards are structured into three classes (Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3) based on amenities (air conditioning, privacy). Outpatient doctors issue referrals for ward admission based on medical needs.

Who Is Eligible

  • All Malaysian citizens with a valid referral letter from a government clinic (Klinik Kesihatan) or government emergency department.
  • Required Documents

  • Original MyKad.
  • Ward Admission Referral Letter (Surat Rujukan Kemasukan Wad) issued by a medical officer.
  • Government Guarantee Letter (GL) (for civil servants and pensioners).
  • Step-by-Step Procedure

    1. Referral Check: Present your referral letter at the hospital's Admission Counter (Unit Kemasukan). 2. Select Ward Class: Select your preferred ward class (Class 3 is the most subsidized; Class 1 offers private/semi-private rooms). 3. Pay Deposit: Pay the required admission deposit based on the selected class (unless you have a valid GL). 4. Ward Allocation: Nurses guide you to the allocated ward. 5. Discharge Settlement: Upon recovery, visit the billing counter (Unit Hasil) to settle the final bill and collect your discharge summary and medications.

  • - Class 3 Deposit: RM15.00 (Daily ward fee is RM3.00). - Class 2 Deposit: RM150.00 (Daily ward fee is RM20.00). - Class 1 Deposit: RM600.00 to RM800.00 (Daily ward fee is RM30.00 to RM80.00). - Note: Medical procedures, surgery, and laboratory fees are charged separately at highly subsidized rates.
  • Processing Time: Admissions are processed within 1 to 2 hours.

  • In-person: Admissions Unit (Unit Kemasukan) of any Ministry of Health (KKM) government hospital nationwide.
  • Important Notes

  • Civil servants, government pensioners, and students under school sponsorships are exempt from deposit payments upon presenting a valid Guarantee Letter (GL).
  • Class 3 ward rates are capped at extremely affordable limits to protect lower-income groups.
