What Is It
i-Saraan is a voluntary retirement savings scheme by the Employees Provident Fund (KWSP/EPF) designed for self-employed individuals and gig workers. It allows members to save at their own pace and offers a government matching incentive of 15% on annual contributions (up to RM500 per year).
Who Is Eligible
Malaysian citizen under 60 years old.
Self-employed individuals (e.g. traders, farmers, freelancers, e-hailing drivers, online sellers, home businesses).
Registered under the EPF database as an i-Saraan member.
Required Documents
Copy of MyKad.
Completed Form KWSP 16G (M) (for registration).
Proof of self-employment (SSM cert, platform driver profile screenshot, or business declaration).
Step-by-Step Procedure
1. Visit EPF Counter: Go to the nearest EPF branch office or register online via the i-Akaun portal.
2. Submit Registration Form: Register under the i-Saraan program using form KWSP 16G (M).
3. Make Contribution: Transfer funds to your EPF account via online banking (FPX), agent banks (BSN, Maybank, Public Bank), or at EPF kiosks.
4. Contribution Matching: The government calculates your annual contributions and adds a 15% matching incentive to your Account 1 (up to RM500 annually).
5. Dividend Earning: Earn standard annual dividends on your total savings balance.
Cost & Processing Time
Cost: No registration fee. Contributions are voluntary (minimum RM10 per deposit up to RM100,000 per year).
Processing Time: Instant account registration. Government matching incentives are credited in the following calendar year.

Important Notes
Registered i-Saraan members qualify for death benefits (RM2,500) and disability benefits (RM5,000) under EPF rules.
