What Is It

The Emergency Certificate (Sijil Darurat) is a temporary travel document issued to Malaysian citizens who have lost their passport abroad, allowing them to return to Malaysia.

Who Is Eligible

Malaysian citizens who have lost their passport abroad are eligible to apply for the Emergency Certificate.

Required Documents

  • Local Police Report: a report filed with the local police abroad
  • MyKad or Birth Certificate: to verify citizenship
  • Passport Photos (white background): for the certificate application
  • Flight Itinerary: proof of travel back to Malaysia
  • Borang Soal Selidik Kehilangan (IM.42c): a form to be completed for the application

    1. File a Police Report: file a report with the local police abroad 2. Contact the Malaysian Embassy: contact the nearest Malaysian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate 3. Submit Application: submit the application with the required documents and pay the RM50.00 fee

    Cost & Processing Time

    The application fee is RM50.00. The processing time may vary depending on the location and availability of the Embassy or Consulate.

    Important Notes

    The Emergency Certificate is only valid for a one-way direct trip back to Malaysia. Upon return, the passport holder must report the loss to JPN/Immigration and apply for a replacement passport, which is subject to penalty fees between RM200 and RM1200 depending on the frequency of loss.
